Association Mieux Prescrire (AMP), a non-profit continuing education organisation under the French law of 1901, manages all of Prescrire's publications and programmes. The AMP bylaws contain this statement of purpose: "to work, in all independence, in favour of quality healthcare, first and foremost in the interest of patients (...).".
> AMP bylaws (in French, pdf, 147Ko).
An association of healthcare professionals
Nearly all of AMP's members are healthcare professionals, dedicated to providing quality medical and pharmaceutical information. AMP was set up in such a way as to ensure the ongoing independence, quality and usefulness of Prescrire's publications and programmes.
"Non merci...": no conflicts of interest
The bylaws specify that AMP members must work to prevent any conflicts of interest, as called for in the "Non Merci..." Charter that is part of AMP's internal operating procedures. Members of AMP's General Assembly of Colleges, members of the Editorial Staff, members of General Management and Project Managers must all sign a Declaration of Absence of Conflicts of Interest.
The choice of independence
Prescrire is wholly financed by subscriptions, and receives no revenue from advertising or grants. Thus editorial choices are guided solely by their usefulness to healthcare professionals in daily contact with patients.
Prescrire is the only French professional publication in the medico-pharmaceutical field that is solely financed by subscriptions. It is also the only one to make its accounts public every year.
