"Preventing Overdiagnosis": an international conference to be held in Barcelona on 20-22 September 2016

The not-for-profit group "Preventing Overdiagnosis", dedicated to "winding back the harms of too much medicine", has announced plans for its 2016 conference.

The 2016 conference will include plenary debates involving voices from across the healthcare landscape. A new form of session will focus on the practical reality for clinicians struggling with overdiagnosis in their daily work, designed to share intelligence, tips and skills. 

Abstracts are being accepted for presentations, seminars, posters and workshops.

Themes include:

  • Widening disease definitions that cause overdiagnosis
  • Genomics and the potential for overdiagnosis
  • Economic consequences of overdiagnosis
  • Ageing: overdiagnosis, dediagnosis and deprescribing
  • Cultural and existential drivers of overdiagnosis
  • Interventions to mitigate harms of overdiagnosis
  • Big data
