The three annual Prescrire Awards, for drugs, packaging and information, are granted in total independence by Prescrire editors.

The 2011 Prescrire Awards

Prescrire’s annual awards for drugs, information and packaging are granted in total independence by the Editorial Staff. No tangible progress in 2011 in terms of new medicines: none at all were cited in this year's Drug Awards. No award for packaging either, but a number of "red cards". And a list of  companies commended for their transparency in providing information.

31 years of Prescrire Awards

The winners of the Prescrire Drug Awards are chosen yearly, in all independence, by Prescrire's editors. The Drug Awards allow Prescrire's readers to distinguish new products that deserve to be incorporated into their therapeutic arsenal, to ascertain which are useful replacements for older drugs in order to improve care, and which should be set aside.

Prescrire looks back at new drugs and new indications in 2011

Progress in the pharmaceutical sector accounted for only a tiny proportion of the hundred or so new products and indications analysed by Prescrire in 2011. About 1 in 6 new products had more harms than benefits, while more than half of all new products provided no advantages over existing options.

Prescrire's annual "Pilule d'Or" ceremony was held on 28 January 2010 in Paris, to announce the Prescrire Drug Awards, Packaging Awards and Information Awards for 2009. A discussion-debate was devoted to the adverse effects of medicines.

Prescrire's annual "Pilule d'Or" ceremony was held on 29 January 2009 in Paris, to announce the Prescrire Drug Awards, Packaging Awards and Information Awards for 2008. A discussion-debate was devoted to the theme of "self-medication" in Europe.
 

The 2007 Prescrire Awards

Prescrire Awards The 2007 Prescrire Awards were announced on 17 January 2008 at Prescrire's annual Pilule d'Or ceremony in Paris. In addition to a "Pilule d'Or" for carglumic acid, two drugs were added to the Honours List and 6 were singled out as "Noteworthy".
