Retracted articles continue to do harm  Editorial  More and more articles are being retracted by their authors or by scientific journals as a result of errors or fraud discovered post-publication (1-3). Particularly noteworthy examples include a paper by a Marseille-based group of researchers on the effects of using hydroxychloroquine in combination with azithromycin to treat covid-19. With nearly 3200 citations, it is the second most highly cited retracted article in the world (4). Full article available for download (FREE) 1 January 2026

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Fezolinetant (Veoza°) for menopause-related hot flushes  Marketing Authorisations  Fezolinetant has been authorised in the European Union to treat moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause. In this situation, how effective is fezolinetant against hot flushes compared with menopausal hormone therapy? Is it effective in women who cannot receive menopausal hormone therapy? ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Momelotinib (Omjjara°) in myelofibrosis  Marketing Authorisations  The immunosuppressant momelotinib has been authorised in the European Union for use in patients with primary myelofibrosis, post polycythaemia vera myelofibrosis or post essential thrombocythaemia myelofibrosis. Does momelotinib extend survival in these patients? Does it alleviate symptoms more than existing drugs, particularly ruxolitinib? ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Cabergoline: fibrotic disorders and heart valve disease  Adverse effects  Quinagolide, a non-ergot dopamine agonist used in hyperprolactinaemia, has been withdrawn from the market in several European countries. This will probably lead to an increase in the number of patients exposed to the ergot-derived dopamine agonists bromocriptine and cabergoline.  Full article available for download by subscribers 1 January 2026

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Adverse effects of nirsevimab: limited data after one season of use in infants  Adverse effects  Nirsevimab is a monoclonal antibody, authorised since 2023 for the prevention of infection with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in neonates and infants. Between September 2023 and April 2024, about 2 million children were exposed to nirsevimab worldwide. In September 2024, the French Health Products Agency (ANSM) published the report of a pharmacovigilance survey covering the period from September 2023 to April 2024.
