The 2010 "Prescrire Encounters" in Brussels:
"For accessible quality healthcare"

Rencontres PrescrireThe "Rencontres Prescrire 2010" will be held in Brussels Friday 28 and Saturday 29 May. The event will be conducted in French, but a broad range of European and international participants and viewpoints are expected, and encouraged.

2 plenary sessions
The opening session Friday morning presents an overview of the primary obstacles to access to quality care. The closing session Saturday morning explores “Decision-making in a situation of complexity”.

10 workshops
Workshops will be repeated 3 times, allowing each participant to attend 3 different workshops. The workshops will focus on concrete methods for:

  • preventing healthcare-related errors
  • optimising medical prescriptions for the elderly
  • drawing up a medications list
    – for non-prescription drugs (to be recommended in pharmacies)
    – for prescription drugs (first-line choices for the most common clinical situations)
    – in a healthcare facility
  • knowing how and why to say "Non merci…" to conflicts of interest
  • spreading the "Non merci…" philosophy
  • understanding cultural and social diversity
  • allocating health resources
  • reading health information critically.

Poster exhibition
Posters will be on display over the 2 days of the Rencontres and the authors will be on hand to present them. Posters will discuss subjects covered in the workshops, or related to the overall theme. All participants are invited to use posters to share their experiences, their methods and projects they are working on. There are just a few rules to follow (available online, in French). Deadline for submission of posters: 31 March 2010.

An evening of entertainment
Participants are invited to a performance of the play "Ma Terre Happy !" and a festive dinner on Friday night.

International focus
The proceedings will be in French, but a broad range of European and international participants and viewpoints are expected, and encouraged.
