Long-term methylphenidate use: cardiovascular disorders

 Adverse effects   According to a study based on Swedish healthcare registers, in adults and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, the risk of cardiovascular disorders increases with the duration of exposure to methylphenidate. After 3 to 5 years of exposure, the risk was increased by about 30%. The risk of hypertension appears to double beyond 5 years of exposure.
